Briefly, reading a Richard Scarry book more than twice can be torture on the adult, and Scarry’s body of work has not aged well.įirst, many of Scarry’s books are barely revised copies of one another. But there are a number of reasons why you might pause before inviting too many Scarry books into your home. And I will admit that many of Scarry’s invented vehicles are rather clever (pickle car, anyone?) and perfectly suited for entertaining a pre-elementary school audience.
